This mid sized pennisetum is a clump forming grass which grows in any fertile yet well drained or sandy soil in full sun. Plant with other grasses or in mixed borders to give autumn interest.
Red buttons is a 3 foot tall perennial growing in USDA zones 8 - 11.
Its red plumes are extremely attractive and can be the focal point of any flower or ornamental grass garden. Red buttons, sometimes called Red Bunny Tails, is a fountain grass which is perennial to tender perennial that is heat and drought tolerant.
It forms compact but upright clumps of medium green linear blades. In the heat of the summer, plants produce long stems topped with dense, elongated, feathery flower clusters of rose-red. These are long-lived and can be used in fresh or dry arrangements.
Sowing Rate: 2 - 3 seeds per plant. Pennisetum Red Buttons ornamental grass grows best in full sun, and average, well drained soil. Pennisetum ornamental grass plants can self sow as they drop their seeds.
