About This Item
Delphinium consolida is commonly referred to as Larkspur. This tall annual gives a graceful performance in the flower border with lace-like leaves and showy blooms. This variety, White King, has flowers of pure white. Larkspur is perfect for the old-fashioned flower garden!
These larkspurs grow 3 - 4 feet tall as annuals in USDA zones 3 - 10.
The blooms last 1 – 2 months and are so rewarding and enjoyable. Larkspur is often used in fresh floral arrangements, and it dries nicely keeping its color for dried arrangements.
The seed needs to have a cold treatment before planting. Using a damp paper towel, place the seed on the towel and place it in a plastic container with a sealable lid. Keep the seed container in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Remove from refrigeration and plant the seed directly outdoors in a prepared seedbed.
Sowing Rate: 2 - 3 seeds per plant. Press the seed into the soil and lightly cover. Keep the seed moist continuously. With a temperature of 55F, germination is usually within 28 days. Space the plants 12 - 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Larkspur is usually resistant to deer. They easily reseed themselves. Deadhead spent flowers if reseeding is not desired.
