About This Item
Also known as Four O'Clocks, this old-fashioned garden favorite has been upgraded with this Marble variety. Soft orange-yellow fragrant flowers are flecked and striped carmine red. The bushy and vigorous 24 - 36 inches tall plants begin to bloom in midsummer and continue to flower until frost.
The fragrant flowers open in late afternoon, and keep on flowering until the next morning. Just sit out on your patio or deck and enjoy its sweet evening perfume. The scented flowers attract hummingbirds by day and moths by night. Four O'Clock plants thrive in all zones, blooming all summer long.
Mirabilis Jalapa Four O'Clock thrive in ordinary soil in full sun or partial shade, sending up numerous volunteer seedlings every year (even in cold parts of the country.) Mirabilis Jalapa wild flower seeds may be sown directly into the garden in the spring in warm areas. In other areas with a late spring, start the Four O'Clock seeds indoors about eight weeks before the final frost date for transplanting.
The seedlings may be set in the garden at about the same time you would plant tomatoes. Allow about 12 inches between plants. Mirabilis roots are tuberous and can be divided in early spring. Some gardeners will store the tubers indoors over the winter and then plant again in the spring. Caution: These flower seeds are poisonous.
Sow 2 seeds per plant and space 12 - 24 inches apart to begin growing your four o' clock flower seed mix.
